LRT Incident – February 14, 2021

This was a disheartening and disappointing incident. EPS members are trained to protect all Edmontonians, including the most vulnerable among us. They are also trained to treat all citizens with the respect and dignity they deserve. This recent incident does not reflect the high standards that EPS strives to maintain.

The Edmonton Police Commission hired Chief Dale McFee to create a culture of safety and inclusivity within the EPS. His strategy, since day one, has been a focus on prevention, diversion and building partnerships with all Edmontonians, particularly marginalized and minority communities. EPS has made important strides with community focused initiatives over the last few years. Incidents like this remind us of the work that lies ahead in order for the service to build, strengthen and improve these relationships.
