The Edmonton Police Commission issued the following statement on recent police line of duty deaths and injuries:

“On behalf of the Edmonton Police Commission, we wish to express our deepest condolences following the recent line of duty deaths across Canada.

“Any loss of life in service of protecting others is a profound tragedy. While such incidents are felt most acutely by the officers’ family, friends, and colleagues, they also resonate deeply across the policing profession. Every line of duty death serves as a sobering reminder of the risks that police officers face each day in service to their communities.

“For members of the Edmonton Police Service (EPS), this loss is not viewed as a distant event. Policing is a profession bound by shared values, experiences, and a commitment to public service. When an officer is killed in the line of duty anywhere in Canada, it is felt throughout policing organizations across the country, including here in Edmonton. Such tragedies reinforce the realities faced by those who serve and protect our communities and remind us of the sacrifices made by officers and their families.

“As governors of the EPS, we remain committed to supporting the wellbeing and safety of our members while ensuring they have the resources, training, and support necessary to carry out their duties. We also recognize the importance of supporting one another during moments of loss and grief.

“We stand in solidarity with the affected police services, the officers’ loved ones, and the broader policing community as they navigate this difficult time. We honour the officers’ service, sacrifice, and dedication to protecting others.

“Our thoughts are with all those mourning this loss and to those impacted by it.”
